LOCATION
The report base is the Downpatrick/Castlewellan Depot but the post holder will be required to work anywhere in the District.
JOB SUMMARY
To work as a part of the Environmental Services team to provide Cleansing and Refuse Collection Services to the ratepayer.
KEY TASKS
1. To work as part of the Refuse Collection and District Cleansing team. This work includes refuse collection, district cleansing, public conveniences, litter picking and related services where necessary.
2. To operate safely all equipment/plant/vehicles/tools necessary for the performance of the service.
3. To maintain appropriate records for works undertaken in Refuse Collection, District Cleansing and other related services e.g. work schedules, timesheets.
4. To be responsible for the collection and removal of litter and designated waste as instructed in accordance with agreed operating and safety procedures.
5. To assist the Driver in the safe operation of the vehicle as appropriate.
6. To follow the agreed procedures in relation to the disposal of controlled waste e.g. dead animals, dog fouling.
7. To report any issues that may present a danger to the public/environment to a line manager.
8. To carry out cleansing, equipment checks and minor maintenance to equipment used in accordance with agreed procedures.
9. To provide assistance and information to members of the public when requested.
10. To ensure a high standard of personal behaviour at all times and to maintain good relations with customers and members of the public.
11. To ensure that Corporate policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
No Job Description can cover every issue that may arise within the post at various times and the post holder is expected to carry out other duties from time to time which are broadly consistent with those in this Job Description.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE (ESSENTIAL)
At least six months relevant experience e.g. labouring, cleaning and maintenance, waste removal, working with hydraulic equipment.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS (ESSENTIAL)
Awareness of Health and Safety issues in relation to:-
Manual handling
Working with mechanical equipment while in the presence of members of the public and traffic.
Ability to work on own initiative and working as part of a team
OTHER (ESSENTIAL)
Applicants must be available from Easter to December (inclusive) including early mornings, evenings, weekend work and public holidays. Ability to work at any location throughout the district,
